- 2019-20 PKMS PTO Board Introductions- President & Board Members
- Michelle Angeldorf – President; Kendra King and Jillian Miller – Co-Vice Presidents; Helene Moll – Treasurer; Jen Brown – Secretary; Kaye Knauff and Becky Williamson – Members-At- Large
- Welcome Message & Goals –President
- Background of Michelle – Former PTO President at PKES, Parent Liasion 7 yrs, Member of Recent Bond Committee
- Teacher Appreciation is Mr. Young’s foremost goal; bringing in authors, meeting teacher requests also priorities
- Our focus in on fundraising to support those goals
- Fundraising – President
- We are trying new fundraising ideas this year with a major fundraising effort being a Readathon to tie into the One School, One Book program; Students get pledges from sponsors; through research into Readathons in nearby goal is 2 -3 pledges of $20-35 and 35% participation; offer incentives such as extra blacktop time or free seating during lunch and incorporate teacher/teacher competitions
- Kona Ice - $10 per student for the year comes back to PTO for teacher appreciation; We made $340 on our first day
- Welcome Back Bingo Night – community night event with bingo and food trucks
- Looking at a Silent Auction in January utilizing donations from sponsorship
- Sponsorships are available and include a banner with the sponsor’s logo on the fence along the carline and acknowledgement on our website and facebook page; Sponsorships can be customized
- With fundraising, we do want to give back to our community – 10% will go to student chosen local charities
- Potential fundraiser mentioned by Robin Peterson – Test drive cars at Stateline Dodge/Ford; Robin to get more details
- Advertise way for parents to support PTO through current shopping – Harris Teeter VIC Card, Publix, Amazon Smile, Box Tops/Coke Give programs; corporate matching programs
- School Principal PTO Requests – President
- Several beginning of the year requests from administration – staff shirts, cafeteria mural, team building scavenger hunt that included teacher lunch
- PTO sponsored inspirational speaker Chris Singleton who gave a message of kindness to students in the first week of school
- First week coffee truck for staff as part of staff appreciation
- Sponsor Top Hawks Gift Certificates for teachers monthly
- Special Appreciation – Busdrivers, cafeteria staff, crossing guards, etc.
- PTO Committees – Board
- Book fair – PTO will organize volunteers to assist Mrs. Nees in running the book fair; details and sign up coming soon
- 8th Grade Dance Committee – hoping to set the dance earlier in the school year and to recruit parents from other grades to help day of event
- Field Day – Jillian and Becky will co-chair again
- Hospitality/Staff Appreciation –hosting quarterly lunches on 10/10, 12/11, and 3/4/20 and the last lunch to coincide with teacher appreciation week in May; We will also be doing quarterly pop up snack carts to treat staff during the school day.
- Spriritwear – local partnership; spiritwear will be available during certain windows throughout the year
- 2019-20 Budget Presentation & Board Vote – President
- Michelle presented the proposed budget – income is based on 35% participation on Readathon; if we meet budget expectations, we can look at taking on a bigger teacher request project
- Michelle called for a board vote on the budget – 6 in favor; 1 absent
- Board Member Topics
- We want to work on BBQ night to benefit Mr. Donnelly in fundraising for his lung transplant – need to coordinate with Mr. Young on details
